$100 laptops rejected as immature idea

Seen on Gizmodo, India is not buying the hooplah over the no-third-world-child-left-behind idea of $100 laptops floated by MIT.  I guess they had the same reaction I had when I first heard of the project.  Hmmm, let’s see, we have millions of children living in mud huts and tin shacks, eating mushy rice covered with flies…hmmm, the best thing we can do for them is give them fun little laptop computers, yeah!  Criminy, some well-fed geek in a slick urban loft apartment thought that one up.  The Gods Must Be Crazy.

Anyway, that’s pretty much what I thought when I first heard about this boondoggle, and it sounds like the Indian Ministry of Education is inclined to agree, saying what they could use are things like teachers and blackboards.  Good thinking, guys, let’s keep it sane.  Beware geeks bearing gifts.
